There’s a new food fest in town, and promoter Cat Kirk says A Bite of the Rockies will fill in the holes that some of the bigger events ignore — starting with its timing. “I’m a festival junkie,” Kirk admits. “I love Taste of Colorado and Cinco de Mayo, but I noticed that there was nothing big like that scheduled in the winter. Plus, a lot of the bigger fests have gone so commercial that they knock out the little guys.”

As a result, in addition to its early-spring date, Bite will look different by including many undiscovered Denver foodie finds in its vendor lineup, such as ethnic eateries and a number of home businesses taking advantage of the Colorado Cottage Food Act by bottling their artisan pickles and chocolate sauces for resale — at home, in their own kitchens. More than forty local restaurants and food trucks will be represented among the 200-plus vendors. And Bite also promises a family-friendly ambience, live music by the Colorado Symphony and others, popular attractions like the Gabby Gourmet, and low ticket prices, to boot.

Prepare to chow down at A Bite of the Rockies today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Denver Merchandise Mart, 451 East 58th Avenue; admission is only $5 (free for children ages twelve and under), and tasting tickets are fifteen for $10. Get all the details at abiteoftherockies.com, and bon appétit!
