Intern Affair

Interning at Westword has played an important role in my evolution as a journalist. Without this position, I never would have learned to be creative and take initiative in a professional setting. And I’ve only had to get my editor coffee once. The same goes for the interns at + Gallery, who’ve been preparing for Transmute, their curatorial debut premiering tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. at +’s sister gallery, Object + Thought, at 3559 Larimer Street. Joy Hamilton, Laura Ferguson and Morgan Breitenstein wanted to represent landscapes through the changing concept of time and reality, to go from sparse rural vistas to dense urban epicenters, from abstract to literal. They chose works by artists in the gallery’s stable (including Kate Petley, Lauri Lynnxe Murphy and William Betts) as well as a few new faces (Angela Beloian, Lela Shields and Nathan Abels) and some familiar ones (Dave Menard, Space Gallery’s Graeme Duncan and Virginia Maitland).
