We’re aiming to raise $20,000 by April 26. Your support ensures Westword can continue watching out for you and our community. No paywall. Always accessible. Daily online and weekly in print.
Uncle Sam wants you to make a run for it at the family-friendly Liberty Run 4 Mile Run/Walk, starting at 8:30 a.m. in Washington Park, 1000 South Downing Street, where patriotic costumes have become as integral to the annual event as the race itself.
“We really try to make it fun and festive for the whole family,” says race spokesman Lonnie Somers. “We have prizes for the top costumes for both kids and adults, and it’s as good as any fireworks display to see all that red, white, and blue on the move once the race gets under way. We’re extra excited this year because of our new partnership to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Team DetermiNation program.”
Register online at www.Liberty4Mile.com or on race day starting at 7:30 a.m. (Registration is $35/adults, $25/youth and seniors, or $100 for the Four on the 4th Four-Pack, and includes T-shirts and a HydraPouch for the cup-free hydration stations.) And don’t miss the Firecracker Kids Fun Run at 10 a.m: “We rile the kids up real good in front of the big crowd and then – bang! – set them loose,” Somers says. “It’s a blast. Stick around afterward for chocolate fondue from the Melting Pot and other special treats for kids of all ages.”
