What started as a kitschy birthday party for swing dancer extraordinaire Tiffiny Wine has morphed into an end-of-summer standard at the Mercury Cafe, where Wine and Dan Newsome hold court over the dance floor. Not only have the two been the orchestrating force of the swing scene there, but they also dominate the lindy-hop circuit as one of the top three teams in the world. So don your best vintage Hawaiian garb and head to the Merc (2199 California Street) for Revenge of the Tiki Party. Along with swing dancing, there will be hula-hoop and limbo contests, door prizes, guest DJs and plenty of tropical-drink specials. The party costs $8 and goes from 9 p.m. until the wee hours, but you can get a jump on the action by attending a free dance lesson at 8 p.m. You’ll want to say hana hou — that’s Hawaiian for “Encore!” Visit www.denverswingdance.com or call Tiffiny at 303-294-9281 for details.

Will you step up to support Westword this year?

At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $22,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
