As the Denver Handmade Alliance grows, so does the local crafting collective’s impact: Conceived of two years ago as a launching pad for independent local crafters and creatives, the organization just received status as a nonprofit, with a goal of doing exactly what it’s been doing all along — providing practical help for virgin businesses and raising public awareness about them — with an ever-increasing membership.

The annual Art by Craft exhibit and one-day craft market, the group’s flagship event, is growing, too. Taking place this year at RedLine Gallery (where the exhibit opened with a reception on October 1), Art by Craft celebrates its first year as a juried affair, meaning that quality control is higher than before. “RedLine provided some of the jury members, so there was an added contemporary-art perspective,” notes DHA’s Becky Wareing.

See for yourself today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the market, where, along with some of the best handmade work in the city from thirty crafters, you’ll encounter interactive make-and-take fun on RedLine’s patio, as well as a pop-up shop in a camper hosted by the Santa Fe Drive boutique Rakun in the parking lot. The first thirty early birds will be treated to swag bags, and food trucks will be stationed outside.

RedLine is at 2350 Arapahoe Street; admission is free. For more information about Art by Craft and services provided by the Denver Handmade Alliance, go to www.denverhandmade.org.

Sun., Oct. 9, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., 2011
