“I worked in front of the train station near the Oprah studios, and I’d see these woman come out of there like they just saw Jesus,” explains Charly “City Mouse” Fasano, whose newest collection of audio poems, The Oprah EP, will be released tonight. This is the twelfth cassette from Fast Geek Press, a record label and publisher owned and operated by Fasano and musician Magic Cyclops that prides itself on analog releases.

As for the content of this release, Fasano says it meshes his time in Denver with his past in Chicago, and resembles storytelling more than it does a poetry slam. But the cassette is also more than a reading. In the past, Fasano worked with a variety of musicians on accompaniment for his poems; Ryan Honaker of the band Fight Spider With Spider provides the synth-heavy backing music for The Oprah EP.

Fasano will celebrate the release of this cassette at the Fast Geek Boutique, 2298 Clay Street, at 7:30 p.m. tonight; the party will also feature music from Andy Thomas and Scooter James, as well as art by Vincent Cheap. Admission is free; for more information, go to www.fastgeekpress.com.
