In with the new, out with the old, in with the new: The New Media Salon at Plus Gallery’s temporary space at 1490 Delgany Street, in the shadow of MCA/Denver, is a metaphorical hello/goodbye to the neighborhood that Plus gallerist Ivar Zeile has called an interim home while the gallery’s soon-to-be-new digs were being refurbished over on Larimer Street. “This block feels like a hidden gem,” Zeile says thoughtfully, noting that even as the temporary Plus prepares for its March move, its sister gallery, Object + Thought, will set up shop with a new installation-only space just down the block at 1420 Delgany.
The content of tonight’s event also carries an edge of newness: Curated by video artist and educator David Fodel, it’s a showcase for emerging new-media artists in the University of Denver’s graduate program in electronic media arts, which teaches an astonishing gamut of pioneering techniques. “We’ll have some works on monitors, other pieces projected on the walls; one is an interactive installation piece, and we’re even going to try and have an exterior projection, but all the works have some kind of a video component,” Zeile says.
