The art community extends far beyond just artists, says Spark Gallery director Evan Siegel. And to celebrate that community of cooperative galleries, art buyers and art lovers, Spark is hosting the first Denver Artists’ Ball tonight.
The ball will feature artist trading cards, which attendees can make; mobiles by Spark Gallery; live music from the Flat Out Five, Berrick and more; spoken-word performances and electronic visuals behind the performers; and dancing. It’s a steampunk-themed ball, so costumes will also be on the agenda.
“I want people to come, have a good time, and know that they’re celebrating and acknowledging that there’s a vital and artistic community in Denver,” says Siegel, who was inspired by gallery member Madeleine Dodge’s idea for the event. “Their attendance is a vote for that, and it’s also a vote for a continued celebration in the future of events of this nature.”
The Denver Artists’ Ball starts at 8 p.m. at the Mercury Cafe, 2199 California Street; admission is $10 at the door. For more information, visit sparkgallery.com/dab.
