The Scott LaBarbera era at the Oriental Theater, 4335 West 44th Avenue, got off to a rocky start. The newish co-owner endured a public falling-out with his former associates over a year ago, so the theater’s one-year Anniversary Party is more than just four days of revelry in celebration of another year gone by; it’s also a show of strength that not everyone was rooting for.

Last night, standup comedian Matt Vogl put together a lineup of local comedians and got things started on the right foot. Tonight the crowd will float to the vocal stylings of Angie Stevens and her band, the Beautiful Wreck, along with music from JT Nolan, John Common and the Late Jack Redell. Tomorrow, jam out all over again to national headliner Randy Jackson of the band Zebra.

Tickets range from $5 to $20, depending on the day and event. All shows are 21+, and doors open at 8 p.m. For information or tickets, go to www.theorientaltheater.com or call 303-455-2124.
Fri., Jan. 12, 8 p.m.

If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
