Toga parties are, by most accounts, ridiculous. Then again, so are white-trash parties, pimp-and-ho parties and pretty much any other themed shindig that mandates costumes and the exorbitant consumption of alcohol. But ridiculous or not, we still go — we always go, because people in costumes tend to leave their inhibitions at home with the babysitter and the Barcalounger.
Although costumes aren’t mandatory at tonight’s ’60s Dance Party and Burlesque As It Was performance at the Oriental Theater, 4335 West 44th Avenue, they’re strongly encouraged, for restraint will simply not be tolerated. The dancers, along with the letter-sweater-wearing dudes of the Orangu-Tones, have joined forces to present a two-hour G-string jubilee of throwback frat rock and yesteryear’s striptease. Following the performance, DJ Dogboy will continue to spin ’60s rock and R&B while the girls mingle with the crowd. Doors open at 8 p.m., with a $10 cover.
