“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot…” Denverites clearly did on Friday, October 3, when a crowd of Loraxes came together to raise money, eyebrows and maybe even a world record in the World’s Largest Lorax Bar Crawl charity event for the Tennyson Center for Children.
The crawl kicked off at 4 p.m. at Berkeley Untapped, where organizers collected donations and revved up the energy with a lively dance contest. As more Loraxes gathered, the surreal scene led to passing cars honking in support and pedestrians pulling out phones to capture the intriguing gathering.
From there, participants fanned out across more than a dozen bars and restaurants between 38th and 46th, each offering discounts and specials for anyone dressed as the iconic Dr. Seuss character, including special drinks such as the Lorax Lemonade.
“I plan on ending the night with a very wet mustache,” one participant commented while chugging a Lorax Lemonade.
Beyond the costumes and cocktails, the event carried a deeper purpose: raising funds for the Tennyson Center for Children, which has supported kids and families across Colorado for more than 100 years. “Community is so important right now, and we should weaponize that,” said Kiki Carpenter, event organizer and owner of momsdoingcoolthings.com. “If people can spend $10 on a drink, they can spend $10 to make a child’s life a little better.”
By sunset, Tennyson Street wasn’t just buzzing with laughter and music — it was proof that Denver knows how to blend whimsy with purpose. As Carpenter put it, “I am the Lorax, I drink for the trees. Your mission? Help me raise a forest of funds for the Tennyson Center for Children.”
