Margaret Kasahara has been playing with the boundaries between East and West — and where everything meets in the middle — for about a decade, so she was a natural to create a companion exhibit to Kizuna: West Meets East at the Denver Botanic Gardens. Someone Like You, Kasahara’s exhibit of paintings, opened August 18 in the Gates Garden Court Gallery, and there will be a reception for the artist there from 5:30 to 8 p.m. tonight, as well as an artist talk starting at 6:30 p.m.
“It’s a really bright, colorful show with lighthearted humor,” Kasahara explains, noting that she uses images from pop culture to examine identity and self-expression. “It is kind of pointed, but I want people to enjoy the work for the visuals alone, regardless of what you take away from the East/West dialogue I have going on.”
The Denver Botanic Gardens is located at 1007 York Street; tonight’s reception and artist talk are included in the DBG gate fee of $12.50 for adults, $9.50 for seniors and $9 for students and kids. Call 720-865-3585 or visit www.botanicgardens.org to RSVP.
