Join the Parker Road Players for Almost Denver: The Songs and Failures of Jim Aurora, a John Denver parody that pokes fun at the legend by creating a “forgotten” fictional folk singer whose life parallels Denver’s. “I think they just thought up these parodies while listening to John Denver music and thought it would be funny if it said this instead,” explains Trevor Wight, operations manager for the Avenue Theater. “They’re just wacky people who needed a context for the songs they created.” Where the real Denver sang “Take Me Home, Country Roads” and “Thank God I’m a Country Boy,” Aurora sings “Take Me Home, Parker Road” and “Thank God I’m Unemployed.”
