Artist Aaron Hoffmeyer, aka “Chop,” is no stranger to First Fridays, and he has zero qualms about opining on the state of its suck-itude. “If you like Ansel Adams, it’s really nice,” he says, but pop-surrealist paintings of googly-eyed monsters are more his style. As an anecdote to the trite and played out, Chop and his chum, gallery owner Ben Owens, decided to put together a different kind of exhibit — one for hot rod admirers, lowbrow lovers and people who just can’t stand idyllic black-and-white nature photographs. This weekend, Mile High Shakedown: Kustom Kulture Art Show, at 238s Gallery, 238 Santa Fe Drive, will add the missing vroom with a display of custom cars and choppers, art, fashion by Equillibrium Clothing and live music from Reno Divorce.
Come by tonight during First Friday, then return tomorrow afternoon to meet the artists. An art auction starting at 3 p.m. will benefit the MaxFund Animal Adoption Center. For more information, go to www.artofchop.com or call 720-635-0159.
