The American Place Theatre’s one-man touring presentation of The Kite Runner lands at the Lakewood Cultural Center, 470 South Allison Parkway, tonight. Although it has been pared down significantly from the original text, the entire performance is drawn directly from the book. “The uniqueness of having this story told through just one actor and the fact that the American Place Theatre Company has such a huge reputation really interested us in presenting one of their works,” says Rhetta Shead, marketing and promotions supervisor at the center.
Sorab Wadia’s performance tackles a number of characters, including protagonists Amir, a member of the privileged Pushtun ethnic group, and Hassan, the family servant’s son. “It’s really about these two boys and the different things that happen to them during the 1970s Afghan turmoil,” Shead says.
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show are $15 to $22. For more information, call 303-987-7845 or go to www.lakewood.org.
