This national multicultural arts conference unites arts organizations, academics, cultural policy-makers and other movers and shakers to discuss global connections and issues affecting communities of all cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds. In other words, Open Dialogue focuses on the diverse elements that contribute to — and are sometimes ignored by — mainstream American culture.
Not the Same Old Song and Dance is a performance linked to the conference that features the Spirituals Project, Laura “Piece” Kelley, the Brown Lotus Collective and Rennie Harris Puremovement. Comprising sacred songs, spoken word, Latin groove and hip-hop theater, it’s a celebration of all things counterculture and underground.
