Poet and artist Ed Ward came to Denver nearly forty years ago, with designs of living a Beat life inspired by the earlier escapades of Kerouac and friends. Actually, it was his girlfriend’s wish to pull up eastern roots in order to start a new life in the West — though she eventually left Ward and returned to New York. That’s just one story you’ll hear more about at tonight’s December edition of Stories, Stories, Bring Your Stories, Ward’s long-running storytelling night at the Mercury Cafe. Ward and other curated folks bearing tales will hit the stage with their yarns, in the style of The Moth or Denver’s The Narrators — though he did it first.
“This is a participatory thing,” Ward notes, “but it’s not an open mike. You’ve got to get past my ego to get on my stage.” And he picks the participants well: In addition to Ward, tonight’s show will include the funny Kristin Rand and Sarah Reagan Wells. If you think you’ve got the stuff to land up there with them, call Ward at 303-322-9324; if not, just show up for the tale-telling — it’s free. Stories, Stories begins at 7 p.m. at the Merc, 2199 California Street. Find information at mercurycafe.com or the Stories, Stories Facebook page.
