This is the kind of dominant stereotype that motivated playwright Luís Valdez to write I Don’t Have to Show You No Stinking Badges, a satire/drama about Buddy Villa and his wife, Connie, who survive by playing bit roles in Hollywood films.
Staged at El Centro Su Teatro as an ongoing series, Badges begins when the Villas’ son unexpectedly returns home from Harvard with dreams of becoming an actor. “His role is to challenge the Hollywood paradigm,” says Mica Garcia de Benavidez, Su Teatro’s organizational manager.
