In 1971, John Lennon gave us “Imagine” and sang of a world with “no need for greed or hunger,” which is the same vision that powers tonight’s 9th annual HomeAid Colorado Fashion Show: Flashback to the ’70s.
The mission of HomeAid Colorado is to build homes for temporarily homeless men, women and children, many of whom need assistance due to an unexpected, life-changing event; a significant percentage of the people HomeAid serves are “first-time homeless because of the economy,” says executive director Laura Brayman. HomeAid is also turning some of its recipients into fashion models. “We have a project with Volunteers of America working on homes for female veterans, and they get the opportunity to model in the show, as do some of our donors,” Brayman adds.
Tonight’s fundraiser hopes to “help put homelessness out of style,” and guests are encouraged to dig up all their grooviest boho hippie duds and come down to the Curtis Hotel, 1405 Curtis Street, in costume. A prize will be awarded for the best ’70s outfit, and many ’70s-inspired looks from local boutiques Violet, Loft 22, Buffalo Exchange and Saga Furs will be on the runway.
While showing off your flowing skirts, wide-leg jeans and tie-dye, you can nosh on appetizers, sip cocktails and bid on silent-auction items. The fun begins at 6 p.m., and tickets are $95 per person. Call 303-691-0104 to RSVP or visit www.hacolo.org for more information.
