Chilean author Isabel Allende won worldwide acclaim with her best-selling first novel, The House of the Spirits. From there she went on to write twenty more works in her native Spanish, everything from Zorro to Island Beneath the Sea, which have have sold a total of more than sixty million copies and been translated into more than 35 languages. Allende’s newest release, Ripper, takes a decidedly different turn: The book is an atmospheric, fast-paced crime novel centered on a brilliant teenage sleuth determined to identify a San Francisco serial killer. A recent Booklist review called the book “sharply perceptive, utterly charming, and intensely suspenseful.”
The Tattered Cover has partnered with the University of Denver for tonight’s Evening With Isabel Allende. Starting at 7 p.m. in DU’s Sturm Hall, 2000 East Asbury Avenue, the acclaimed author will read from the book and discuss her work.
