Although last year’s Burlesque, starring Cher and Christina Aguilera, contained no real striptease, BurlyCute’s Cora Vette (aka Reyna Von Vett) says it brought a whole new audience to the art — an audience that is sometimes surprised. “Since it didn’t have any pasties or G-strings involved in it, we have people coming to shows that don’t know that burlesque is the art of the tease,” laughs Vette. Rest assured, BurlyCute’s Most Wanted show tonight at Bender’s Tavern will feature plenty of pasties and G-strings, as well as what Vette calls the “controlled chaos” the troupe is known for.

Audiences can expect a wide variety of BurlyCute’s best acts from the past few years, which may include anything from a tiger stripping to “Maneater” to Vette’s versions of 1930s songs about marijuana, which she recently released on the aptly titled album Smokin’ Reefers. The night will also act as the release party for the 2012 Colorado Burlesque Calendar, which features Vette as Miss December, dressed as, in her words, a “cleavage-filled Mrs. Santa Claus busting out all over.”

Whether they’re performing to Britney Spears’s “Toxic” or a vintage 1940s number called “Poon-Tang” (which Vette swears meant hugs and kisses back in the day), the ladies of BurlyCute are sure to offer up an unforgettable show tonight at Bender’s, 314 East 13th Avenue, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 plus fees at www.benderstavern.com or $12 at the door.
