$20,000

The time is always right for the Osage Mercado, a barrio-based public marketplace happening this weekend just south of the light-rail stop at 10th Avenue and Osage Street. A community-driven showcase with a fair-trade spirit, the mercado features a bounty of fresh vegetables, handmade arts and crafts, local performers, and plenty of small businesses and service vendors from the neighborhood.

Ultimately, organizers hope to create a year-round market district, so in a sense, the mercado is a taste of things to come. So take a look, join the fun, and bring a big shopping bag with you from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and tomorrow. For more information, log on to www.osagemercado.org.

Sun., Sept. 23, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Mon., Sept. 22, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., 2007
