Gotta love Loveland, where, in the race to claim earliest opening day honors in North America yet again, they’ve already got snowmaking crews on the mountain. After getting hit with a bit of the real deal yesterday, Loveland’s snowmaking crews went to work under the full moon last night, which means opening day is any day now: Last year we were on the slopes at Loveland on October 7. We’ll keep you posted.

“We got a little dusting on the peaks yesterday and went for it,” says John Sellers, Loveland’s communications director. “It’s always a nice sight to see those first patches of snow on the green slopes. The snowmaking crews are looking for that perfect combination of low temperature and low humidity and we’ve got it right now.”

Will you step up to support Westword this year?

At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $20,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
