If you’re dreaming of a white Christmas, why take your chances in Denver when merry and bright and white are guaranteed up at Winter Park? The free Christmas Eve festivities begin at 4 p.m. with Christmas carols by the bonfire at the base of the Zephyr lift, then continue at 5:30 with a Torchlight Parade of Santa Claus and his crew skiing and snowboarding down the Lower Hughes trail.
“The torchlight parade is our highlight of the holidays and is the longest-running tradition of its kind,” says Winter Park spokeswoman Mistalynn Lee. “It’s an event that will linger in one’s memory as a unique and idyllic holiday event. With Winter Park Resort so close to the Front Range, guests can easily drive home after the festivities or stay to make for a truly memorable holiday.”
Stick around for the fireworks display and to watch the Winter Park snowcats making holiday formations on the mountain, then pray for Christmas-morning freshies during an inter-denominational evening service in the Balcony House or Catholic Church services in West Portal Level 4.
