You’d hardly expect a Robert Louis Stevenson story to provide fodder for a Broadway musical, but then again, there are zombies in Jane Austen novels now, and Abraham Lincoln is hunting vampires. So perhaps it’s not surprising that Jekyll & Hyde was nominated for four Tony Awards, and has proved so popular that an all-new production will open at the Buell Theatre tonight.
“Historically, Denver audiences have loved this show,” says Jeff Hovorka, director of media and marketing for Denver Center Attractions. “And this sexy new production promises to thrill.” Constantine Maroulis, the American Idol finalist who was nominated for a Tony himself, will take on the title roles of Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde, and Deborah Cox — yes, the R&B singer and Grammy nominee — will play Lucy.
Jekyll & Hyde runs through February 10 at the Buell in the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Tickets start at $25; call 303-893-4100 or go to www.denvercenter.org for more information.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 2 p.m.; Sundays, 1 & 6:30 p.m. Starts: Jan. 29. Continues through Feb. 10, 2013
