Last week we gave you the story of a woman claiming she was getting a sex change to try and use her boyfriend’s ski pass at Keystone. She got busted — but compared to Vail, that was a relative rarity.
The Vail Resorts employees in Eagle County ticket nearly five times as many people for ski pass fraud as their next-door, Summit County counterparts, according to a report by the Vail Daily that cites statistics from the Vail Police Department and the Summit County Sheriff.
Vail Police Department this year has ticketed more than 188 ski pass fraud offenders on Vail Mountain while Summit County agencies have ticketed only 39 on the four local mountains.
“We haven’t done any kind of ski pass enforcement, I don’t think, for a while,” Summit County Sheriff John Minor said. “We just don’t have the resources to do it.”
Lift ticket fraud is a misdemeanor and can carry fines of up to
$1,000 and jail time in both Eagle and Summit counties, according to
the Vail Daily report.
