The International Experimental Cinema Exposition is offering back-to-back programs fro fans of experimental film. It kicks off tonight with Bright-Eyed Small Gauge, an exhibition of Super-8 material by Frankie Symonds and Jesse Kennedy. “It’s younger filmmakers who are working directly with the film itself and who have studied with masters of some pretty radical experimental films,” explains TIE founder Chris May.
Follow that up tomorrow with Cinema Jou Jou IV, a fundraising event for TIE with a more social bent. The evening will feature poetry, film projections by Gustav Aschenbach and Milton Bixler and music from Dear Rabbit and others. The theme of the evening is bumblebees and trees. “This event is very different than the night before — those are very radical films, difficult films,” May says. “This is more of a get-together for creative minds in the community.” Dress up, it’s a semi-formal event.
Bright-Eyed starts at 8:30 p.m. tonight and Cinema Jou Jou IV starts at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow. There’s a $7 suggested donation for Bright-Eyed. Cinema Jou Jou is free, but donations are strongly encouraged as it is a fundraiser. Both events take place at the Tears-McFarlane House, 1290 Williams Street.
