n 2007, a little film called The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters earned the entire retro-gaming world a bonus round. The critically acclaimed documentary explores the obsessive culture of competitive arcade gaming through the eyes of two men seeking the world record in Donkey Kong, that classic, barrel-tossing game that rose to prominence in the 1980s. And since the release of that film, it has risen again: On Saturday, the next world champ will be crowned in Denver at the 1UP, where the second annual Kong Off will bring together twelve million-point players and a handful of wild cards on 15 machines for hours of gripping, if nostalgic, gameplay. Not even the kill screen can stop these players.
