If words generally speak to the head and colors generally speak to the heart, there should be plenty for a body to absorb at The Dance of Color and Words, a new exhibit at the Niza Knoll Gallery that features three painters — Rosanne Sterne, Irina Kopelvich and Marsue Todd — playing color and words off each other.
“In Rosanne Sterne’s found-poem painting series, she created twelve color grids and then sought words to fit the context of each colorful grid,” explains Niza Knoll. “The words came from a cluster of word clippings saved from various old magazines, newspapers and advertisements.” The works of the other two artists don’t fit quite as neatly into the theme, though even the wordless paintings express themselves.
The show opens tonight with an artist reception at the gallery, 915 Santa Fe Drive, from 5 to 8 p.m.; Sterne’s daughter, Camilla, a trained jazz vocalist, will sing and play the piano.
