Christmas traditions come in all shapes and sizes, and it’s never too late to add another one to the mix. This year, consider the potent combination of a drinking game and the world’s best (only?) Christmas-action movie hybrid at Films on Tap: Die Hard.

Die Hard is my favorite Christmas movie. I was in high school when it came out, and I was like, ‘Yeah, this is a Christmas movie I can get behind,’” says Ernie Quiroz, programming manager for the Denver Film Society. “You have John McClane as the everyday man against insurmountable odds. He uses his brains and wits to outsmart these guys. He’s outmanned and outgunned, no shirt and no shoes, and yet he manages to take these guys down. As far as action movies go, this is pretty realistic. It’s a good time.”

And it only gets better when every one-liner, explosion and kill is punctuated by a drink. By the time McClane dispatches Hans Gruber and all his minions, your heart will be warmed by spirits both seasonal and potable.

Drink and watch tonight at 9:30 p.m. at the Sie FilmCenter, 2510 East Colfax Avenue. Tickets are $10, or $7 for DFS members, and the first fifty people in the door get a free beer courtesy of Breckenridge Brewery. For tickets and more info, visit denverfilm.org.

Fri., Dec. 12, 9:30 p.m., 2014
