Sarah Oakley knew Reta was "a little problem child" before she adopted the eleven-year-old mix recovering from a major ovarian tumor surgery and dealing with other health issues from Harley's Dream, but she never imagined how problematic her new dog could be.

Since January, Reta has been happily situated in Oakley's dog family, which includes fellow senior dogs Grace and Brodie (who uses a wheelchair). But now her dirty laundry is being aired on the internet. "Reta decided to get into some dirty laundry and eat A LOT of underwear," Broomfield resident Oakley wrote in a GoFundMe posted on March 20. "I was hoping she'd throw it up, but after 24 hours of vomiting, I knew we needed help. A trip to urgent care led to immediate surgery to remove the 'foreign body' from her intestines."

"Reta is home and doing well so far. Peacefully resting in her jail cell….I mean princess palace," Oakley posted in an update on the GoFundMe page.

Reta, always the fighter, is now in recovery, but Oakley was met with an astronomical $13,000 vet bill. Since it turned out Reta had swallowed Skims underwear, Oakley's first thought was to reach out to Kim Kardashian, co-owner of the shapewear and clothing brand. So far, though, Kim K has not responded.

"It was a little tongue in cheek with that one, but it was quite a few pairs," Oakley tells Westword, adding that since Reta is recovering well, she felt more comfortable putting some humor into an otherwise stressful situation.

"So, here I am, humbly asking for your help," Oakley continued in her GoFundMe plea. "Please consider donating to Reta's recovery, or share this post so maybe Kim will see it and come through with a solution (like an edible underwear line) — because, as Reta's mom, I just can't afford to buy Skims anymore unless they're digestible."

The response to the GoFundMe has been good so far, Oakley says, with friends and family donating. "Hopefully, it gets shared a little more and it gets out there," she adds.

In a dog mecca like Denver, people are sure to be empathetic to the shenanigans (and accrued fortunes in vet bills) that dogs can get up to. And how Kim K's underwear can put you in a bind. Donate to Oakley's GoFundMe at gofundme.com/f/RetaLovesSkims
