From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, there will be workshops on bike maintenance, basic skills and advanced techniques, as well as a park naturalist on hand to talk about respecting the environment and the rules of the trail. Breakfast, lunch, bike tuneups, and swag bags from local bike shops and manufacturers are included. The event, at Pelican Point Shelter, 5600 West Morrison Road in Lakewood, is free and open to kids ages six to fourteen, but registration is required at www.comba.org.
Mountain biking is a great opportunity for a young person to challenge themselves physically, build self-confidence in their ability to take risks and test their boundaries, Goodwillie says. Youd be surprised how many local kids never get out and take advantage of it.
