Kelly Shortandqueer and his friend Jamez Terry had a dream: the Tranny Roadshow. "My good friend Jamez called me back in December 2004 and pitched the idea to me," Shortandqueer remembers. "The two of us thought we would go on tour with maybe one or two other people and it would be this real low-key thing. We sent out some e-mails, and within a few weeks, we had about a hundred people who contacted us. And the more the word spread, the more it seemed like this was a needed event."

And so the Tranny Roadshow began.

"The show has gotten much bigger and much better," Shortandqueer notes. "We were able to find good combinations of performers, and the style of performing has also grown. It's not just spoken-word and music; we have a puppet show, someone doing magic and an aerialist.

"One of the things we pride ourselves on is having an all-transgendered cast," Shortandqueer adds. "There's definitely a lot of variety in that. If someone feels comfortable being on the Tranny Roadshow stage, we have room for them."

The Roadshow touches down tonight at 7 p.m. in the Driscoll Center Ballroom on the University of Denver campus; admission is free. Tomorrow night's show, also free, takes place at Old Main Auditorium on the University of Colorado campus in Boulder; check www.trannyroadshow.org for a full schedule and more information.
