Just because the Broncos fell well short of the big game and it’s come down to two of the most hated teams in the nation is no reason to skip the Super Bowl. After all, there’s still the commercials and the halftime show — and, hell, one of those awful teams has to lose, right? So if you’re going to watch, you might as well watch with friends at the Oriental Super Bowl XLIX Party, today at the Oriental Theater.

“We’re not a sports bar, but we like to do stuff for the neighborhood, so even though the Broncos are out, the Super Bowl is still a big deal,” says the venue’s Scott Happel. “It’s a big cultural event. People who don’t care about football at all watch the Super Bowl.”

Regardless of whether it’s Tom Brady’s entitled petulance or Richard Sherman’s swaggering arrogance that you hate more, you’ll find like-minded people to revel in the schadenfreude when one of their teams falls to its inevitable defeat, and you get to watch it all happen on the biggest screen showing the game in Denver. It’s the next best thing to the Broncos winning the whole thing — which is certain to happen next year, anyway.

The party starts at 4:30 p.m. at the Oriental, 4335 West 44th Avenue; admission is free. For more info, visit theorientaltheater.com.
