Ten years ago, Art From Ashes launched as a nonprofit organization to help troubled youth express, connect and transform themselves through language. And today, founder Catherine O’Neill Thorn notes that Art From Ashes is one of the top fifty youth-arts organizations in the country. “We have evidence-based statistics that prove what we do works on so many levels,” she says. “I want to save young people’s lives by helping them see how genius and how valuable they are, even if their experiences belie that truth. I might not be able to change family systems or society, but I can show young people that they have an inner resilience and power that can stand in the midst of the worst circumstances and shine.”

Tonight’s Art From Ashes 10th Anniversary Soirée is going to be “a celebration of poetry, creativity and the community throughout the past ten years,” she adds. “All of our programs in 2014 will be retrospective and forward-thinking; everything we do will be about the previous decade and the upcoming decade. This celebration is going to be low-key, but it’s a time when I just wanted to have a gratitude party.”
