Cox will delve into the fascinating history of mediumship in a four-hour class today, giving context to the history of psychic abilities, which goes back to the 1400s; he’ll also trace mediumship through the ages, introducing participants to key figures like theologian and philosopher Emanuel Swedenborg, American psychic Edgar Cayce and other mediums, some of whom were quite socially progressive on issues such as ending slavery and women's suffrage. And, yes, he’ll even discuss spirits in the White House: Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln once held a séance to commune with their deceased child.
Cox, who is ordained by the Sunset Spiritualist Church and also founded the Denver Psychic Development Group, believes that anyone can commune with the dead, and hopes to inspire some aspiring mediums.
