It's not hard to credit Barry Fey with laying the foundation for Colorado's vibrant music scene. Before his retirement, he brought some of the biggest names in rock to the state, rescued the Denver Symphony and put on Jimi Hendrix's final performance. In short, he's not just a Colorado legend, but a legend of rock-and-roll history. And he's written it all down in a book titled Backstage Past. To put Fey into perspective, consider that the forewords in the book were written by Pete Townshend and Ozzy (and Sharon) Osbourne, two acts he consistently brought to Denver. In fact, when you think of classic rock acts, from Bowie to Joplin to Bono, many were promoted by Fey -- if not in Denver, then somewhere in the United States. His memoir documents his work with these artists, how it changed him, and how he, in his own way, changed America's view of concerts in the West.

Fey will be signing and presenting Backstage Past at the Tattered Cover LoDo, 1628 16th Street, tonight at 7:30 p.m.; admission is free, but seating is limited. For more information, visit www.tatteredcover.com or call 303-436-1070.
