Summer doesn’t officially end for another few weeks, but this is the last big weekend of summer fun for most folks. Fortunately, there's plenty of fun to be had, right outside your front door and all along the Front Range. Here are ten ways to have fun this weekend without getting stuck in I-70 traffic.

10) Taste of Colorado
Friday, September 4 through Monday, September 7
Civic Center Park

Denver’s big block party continues with tons of good food from some of the city’s finest restaurants, carnival amusements, an arts-and-crafts marketplace and music on five stages, including crowd favorites such as Morris Day and the Time, Kansas, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and Bruce Hornsby. Find information at atasteofcolorado.com.

9) Comedy
Brian Regan at Red Rocks
Saturday, September 5;
Kevin Hart at Pepsi Center
Monday, September 7;

Labor Day Weekend Laugh Off
Lounge35, 3500 Walnut Street
Saturday, September 5

Two of the country’s most popular comics are in town for the weekend. Brian Regan sold out Red Rocks last time he performed there, in 2013; Kevin Hart is in the middle of his What Now? Tour (Be warned: They're tossing people in the crowd who pull out their phones). In case arenas don’t do it for you, a more traditional, multi-comic bill is available at Lounge 35Find information for Regan and Hart at ticketmaster.com, for Weekend Laugh Off at facebook.com/Lounge35Denver.

8) Music
Phish at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park
Friday, September 4, Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6;
Taylor Swift at Pepsi Center
Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5

All of the Phish and Taylor Swift  shows are sold out, but a poke around the usual sources for resale tickets indicates a healthy market out there. Love will find a way. Check out Craigslist, and that guy you know in shipping.

7) Colorado State Fair
Through Monday, September 7

A vast panoply of the rural arts awaits you in Pueblo. This weekend is the big finish for the annual event, with treats such as comic ventriloquist Terry Fator, Los Lonely Boys, Steve Park, monster trucks and much, much more. Get all the details at coloradostatefair.com.

6) Boulder Creek Hometown Festival
Friday, September 4 through Monday, September 7

This cozy festival takes place in the shade along Boulder Creek near downtown. It features dozens of arts-and-crafts booths, a car and motorcycle show, a chili cook-off, a 5K, performances at the town’s old bandshell, and much more. Don’t miss the Great Zucchini Race and the Big Wheel 300! Find all the info you need at bceproductions.com/boulder-creek-hometown-festival.

5) Thunder in the Rockies
Friday, September 4 through Monday, September 7

This huge motorcycle rally features lots of offbeat entertainment, including helicopter rides, stunt shows and Hollywood knockouts wrestling in oil and hot cream. Yep. Oh, and Sammy Kershaw, Night Ranger and Jackyl will be there, too. Grab the details at thunderintherockies.com.

4) Pints in the Park
Louisville Community Park
Saturday, September 6;
Louisville Labor Day Parade and Fall Festival
Main Street and Memory Square Park
Monday, September 7

One of the most highly rated towns in the country for quality of living shows why this weekend. Although Saturday's Pints in the Park is a 21-plus event, on Labor Day citizens line the main street, waving and joking with the marchers they know, catching the flung candy and trying to stay in the shade. Lots of old-fashioned, multigenerational fun. Get the goods at  louisvilleco.gov/visitors/special-events.

3) German Day
Centennial Center Park
Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6

Gruss Gott! Who knew that this little Teutonic jubilee was going on in the heart of Denver ? There will be wiener schnitzel, sauerbrauten, blutwurst and beer, beer, beer. Also the  wearing of funny leather pants, and plenty of authentic music and dance as well: When organizers book a group named the Edelweiss Volkstanzgruppe, you know they’re serious. Find more info at germandayincolorado.org.

2) Windsor Harvest Festival
Saturday, September 5 through Monday, September 7

This is the real deal: the 94th annual festival in this formerly sleepy farm town, complete with a parade, massive amounts of bingo, a balloon launch, music and dance, horse-drawn carriage rides, an Elvis impersonator, pie-eating contest, classic cars on display, and fireworks on Saturday night. You had me at “pancake breakfast.” Get the details at windsorharvestfest.com.

1) Colorado Springs Labor Day Lift Off
Saturday, September 5 through Monday, September 7

Ballooning enthusiasts from across the country gather in Colorado Springs each year for three days of mass launchings, balloon rides and more — including a Beach Bash, live entertainment, and a skydiving demonstration by Air Force personnel.
