The Tale of the Trail

More than a thousand miles of trails can be accessed right from downtown Breckenridge -- but not many people know about them, says Scott Fortner of the Breckenridge Resort Chamber. He’s out to change that, with the first-ever Breck Bike Week, July 4 through 12, timed to coincide with two massive bike races: the Firecracker 50, which kicks off the town’s Fourth of July parade, and the five-day Breck Epic stage race, from July 6 to 10.

“It’s a celebration of biking in general,” Fortner says. And it’s all free! You can roll by the bike concierge tent to hook up with a guide for a group-led ride, or get directions for a solo exploration of mining paths turned singletrack. Over the week, there will also be bike-in movie nights, demos of the hottest gear, Tour de France viewing parties – and lots of spandex.
