Windey, who lived in Denver before she became famous on reality TV, was one of four winners in the show that places over twenty reality and competition TV stars in a Scottish mansion for weeks. During the competition, some people are traitors who are trying to "kill" the others, called faithfuls, before their identities are discovered.
Windey helped lead the faithfuls to victory using her people skills and brainpower to suss out traitors and take them down. Windey won alongside Dylan Efron (Zac Efron's brother), Real Housewife Dolores Catania and Ivar Mountbatten, a distant member of the British royal family.
Along the way, Windey established herself as an icon, both for her amazing outfits and her hilarious commentary. Early on, Windey aligned herself with fellow former-publicly-straight-girl-turned-LGBTQ+-icon Crishell Stause and other women to form "the Bambis," an alliance of doe-eyed queens that, while not successful, was very fun to watch.
Windey produced several entertaining moments during the show, including when she completely forgot Mountbatten was in the room and began talking about him. She also took on traitor and Big Brother alum Danielle Reyes, clapping back at Reyes's attempt to "annihilate" Windey at the game's roundtable, where faithfuls try to eliminate traitors.
An episode later, Reyes was voted off and Windey made it to the end. Though Windey's princess-like outfits and babygirlish voice led other competitors to underestimate her, Windey saw through most of the plots during the season to come out on top.
Unlike the other winners, Windey had a "normal" person's life until 2022.
Windey was a Denver Broncos cheerleader and a critical care nurse in the UC Health system before getting into reality TV. She became the Bachelorette in 2022 during the show's nineteenth season, which paired Windey with Rachel Recchia as co-bachelorettes.
During the Bachelorette, Windey accepted the proposal of a man, but the pair broke it off a few months later while Windey was busy becoming the runner-up on Dancing With the Stars. In 2023, Windey came out as a lesbian and launched a relationship with Robby Hoffman, a comedian and TV writer.
Before Windey won a fourth of the $204,300 prize on The Traitors, she said she would use any winnings to get married — so it was a minor spoiler for diehard Gabby fans when she posted Las Vegas wedding photos with her now-spouse Hoffman this week before the final Traitors episode aired. Windey looked iconic, as usual.
Here are some reactions to Windey's time on the show:
The Traitors is so unserious because what do you mean a Real Housewife of New Jersey, Zac Efron’s brother, Prince Harry’s distant relative, and a former Bachelor contestant who is a hilarious lesbian just won a game of simulated murder #TheTraitors #TheTraitorsUS pic.twitter.com/sJUSeM2q2c

BREAKING: SCOTUS rules in unprecedented 9-0 vote that Dolores Catania and Lord Ivar (unsure of last name) have to give their Traitors prize money to Gabby Windey since she “carried the season” and they “did nothing” (SCOTUS wording, not mine). America is healing. pic.twitter.com/akG7dYiDaD
