J'adore! will present twelve new films from France, as well as works from Quebec, Belgium and Switzerland, including a 2009 documentary titled Two in the Wave, which examines the influence of François Truffauts The 400 Blows and Jean-Luc Godards Breathless. L'Affaire Farewell, the opening-night film, shows at 7 p.m. tonight, followed by a reception at Bistro Vendôme, 1420 Larimer Street. On Saturday night, Un Ange à la Mer will be followed by a reception at the Cheeky Monk Belgian Beer Cafe, 534 East Colfax Avenue. And Mademoiselle Chambon, the closing-night film, screens at 6 p.m. Sunday, with a reception beforehand at Brasserie Felix, 3901 Tennyson Street, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. General admission to each film and reception is $20, or $15 for DFS members. Film-only tickets are $12, $10 for members.
The festival is being presented through a partnership with Alliance Français and with help from the Los Angeles embassies representing France, Switzerland, Belgium and Quebec, says Brit Withey, artistic director for the Denver Film Society. "These are all first-run screenings for Denver, Withey adds. French-language cinema has been very, very popular, so it was a no-brainer to do it. We will definitely be doing this festival on an annual basis."
