The Denver music scene is often touted as a network that balances ambition with frequent shows of kindness, whether that means putting on benefits for medical expenses, banding together for DIY festivals, or simply showing up for all-local shows.

Colorado Music Hall of Fame Honors East High School

Philip Bailey, Larry Dunn and Andrew Woolfolk of Earth Wind & Fire honed their musical chops at Denver’s East High School. It was the first place that Bill Frisell performed a jazz song on guitar in public. And when trumpeter Ron Miles was at East, he played his first solo.

The music industry has long been dominated by white men. To open space for other voices, Denver musicians Elinor Saragoussi and Jacob Cohen, aka Rooster Jake, compiled and self-published New Angles: Perspectives of Women, Queer and Gender Non-Binary Members of the Greater Music Community.
