#KeepWade Hashtag Fails to Keep Wade Phillips From Signing With L.A. Rams

The #KeepWade hashtag had little effect on the status on the Denver Broncos staff of defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, one of the main architects of the team’s victory in Super Bowl 50. Mere hours after former Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph was introduced at a press conference yesterday, reports confirmed suspicions that Phillips had been named DC of the Los Angeles Rams — a woeful franchise, but one with a defense capable of much better things. Whether the same will prove true of Denver’s D will be among the more intriguing story lines of the upcoming season.

It’s the second week of the beginners’ Spanish course at the Language School. Five students, including Aisha, sit around a table and ask each other how to spell their names in the foreign language. Their instructor stands close by, listening intently and correcting any mispronunciations. Aisha, a mail carrier from Aurora, signed up for the course because she was tired of coming across non-English-speaking clients and being unable to ask them for simple things like a signature.

Colorado Democratic Representative Jared Polis tweeted about an unconfirmed Buzzfeed report that Russia has damning information on Donald Trump, including a claim that the president-elect employed  a “number of prostitutes to perform a ‘golden showers’ (urination) show in front of him.” Trump has branded the assertions “fake news,” yet at least one Republican state senator from Colorado has rejected a pledge to stop disseminating such false information and a former GOP gubernatorial candidate calls the media pundit behind it a “fake reporter.”

Jeffco Battles Over Proposed Car Dealerships Next to Dino Ridge

On Tuesday, January 17, Jeffco’s board of county commissioners will consider a proposed zoning change for a planned 140-acre development on four parcels straddling the four corners of the Alameda and C-470 interchange. The change would allow for a proposed hotel and gas station southeast of the interchange and, on the northwest quadrant, up to four car dealerships, which would surround the Dinosaur Ridge visitor center on three sides. Representatives of the developer, Three Dinos LLC, have described the request as “a minor change” in use for property that’s been zoned for commercial development for nearly a decade. But opponents of the plan say there’s nothing minor about the impacts the development would have on adjoining open-space land, on wildlife, on nearby hiking and biking trails, and on one of the last scenic vistas in the Rooney Valley, which has seen increasing encroachment by highways, the Solterra housing development, a motocross park, Bandimere Speedway and other projects.
