This town has a real shortage of good Irish bars — as Jason Sheehan lamented in his review of Celtic Tavern — and we just lost another one.  Last night employees of the Auld Dubliner held a wake for the pub at 2796 South Broadway that we’d celebrated in a St. Patrick’s Day list of Irish bars last year (that’s bartendress Ally Frazier in the photo).

We ran into a couple of the mourners at My Brother’s Bar (which, our Scottish friend argued, could well have the town’s most authentic Irish pub feel, even if there’s nothing officially Irish about the spot), and drank a toast to Auld Dubliner. They said they were surprised by the pub’s sudden closure, but said it may resurface in another location. For now, though, it’s apparently pulled its last pint of Guinness — so you can scratch it from Sheehan’s list of spots to drink Guinness.

For more on what Denver needs to do in order to get some real Irish pubs, read Sheehan’s eight-step list for how to create a great Irish bar.
