This weekend Ace, the eatertainment sibling of Vesta Dipping Grill and Steuben’s that opened a year ago, threw itself a real party — a ping-pong battle royale. And on Saturday night, anyone who was up for the challenge could take on Killerspin professional table-tennis players Biba Golic and Ilija “Lupi.” Golic was recently voted ESPN’s sexiest woman alive, and Lupi is a world champion and Olympic medalist. Needless to say, it was a tough fight for anyone who was willing (and probably drunk enough) to rise to the challenge.

On Sunday, the Killerspin pros returned to Ace for an exhibition of their athletic skill. Owners Josh and Jen Wolkon and others from the Ace crew had cleared the tables in the main pong hall and laid down rubber flooring to create more of a center court. Golic and Lupi were able to play the long game on the extended court, demonstrating smashes and trick shots. It was quite a show for the crowd of people that had gathered to watch the athletes in action.

Golic and Lupi later made their way onto the patio, where they gave a few more guests the chance to play against them on Ace’s concrete tables.

Happy first birthday, Ace. We’ll take a birthday paddling over a birthday spanking anyday.
