Westword is looking for students for its fall photo intern program, which focuses on food and restaurant photography. And by “student,” we do not mean “a student of life.” There’s no cash offered with this gig, only college credits. Don’t bother applying if this doesn’t apply to you.

Interns work directly with the Art Director and Web Editor. They photograph local restaurants for our online restaurant guide; they photograph culinary events for this blog. They also shoot slide shows on everything from burlesque shows to margarita festivals to skateboarding squirrels. In the past, stellar interns have even photographed covers and dishes for our weekly restaurant reviews.
The Art Director will provide critiques on your work, but not lessons on how your camera works. It’s also important that an intern have people skills. So if the thought of asking a restaurant manager for permission to take photos of the house special makes you want to crawl back into your cave, this may not be the job for you.
Will you step up to support Westword this year?
At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $23,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
Reliable transportation is a must, and we will reimburse for mileage. And sorry, but this party is B.Y.O.E.: Bring Your Own Equipment.
To apply, send a résumé and links/samples to cafe@westword.com.
