It’s only October 2, but it’s already been a big month for Black Eye Coffee. Yesterday the hot spot in Highland was named the Denver winner in the KRUPS Best Brew Awards — the fifth round of the annual contest, but the first time people were allowed to vote for a brew from Denver, as well as other major cities. In addition to Black Eye, the Mile High nominees included Boxcar Coffee Roasters, Aviano Coffee, Purple Door Coffee House and Novo Coffee.

Java junkies could vote from September 1 through September 29 (National Coffee Day, of course), and then KRUPS did some bean-counting. Black Eye snagged the win for Denver as “a place to slow down and enjoy the craftsmanship of beautiful coffee in a beautiful environment.”And soon you’ll be able to enjoy that coffee in another beautiful environment: Two years after Black Eye opened at 3408 Navajo Street, a second Black Eye Coffee will open Monday at 820 Sherman Street — and this location will have a liquor license in addition to that award-winning brew, and late-night hours to match.
