After more than two decades at 1585 South Pearl Street, the Budapest Bistro has closed its doors. The restaurant owned by Anna Hellvig, who was also the chef, had updated its look several years ago — but with all the other changes on South Pearl Street, the time looked right to now close altogether. The space will be turned into a Mexican restaurant — possibly by the end of June — by the owners of Gaia Bistro, which Patrick Mangold-White and Jon Edwards opened on the same block in 2006, and Kaos Pizzeria , which is just up the street.

And that’s not the only homegrown restaurant chain on South Pearl Street.
Izakaya Den just closed on Sunday night, in anticipation of moving into its new home next to Sushi Den; that move could come as early as next week.
