The lovely space at 2191 Arapahoe Street is about to swallow another restaurant. On Friday, the Carrera family sent out this note:
Buenos Aires Grill will be closing its doors for business as of February 16, 2009. We sincerely appreciate all the support you have given us over the years. It has been our pleasure to serve you, and we’re very grateful for the wonderful people we’ve met and the many friends we’ve gained along the way.
Buenos Aires Grill will be serving through Sunday, February 15, though,so you’ve still got a chance to visit the restaurant Jason Sheehan raved about. And Buenos Aires Pizzeria — Francis Carrera’s original restaurant around the corner at 1307 22nd Street — will remain in business, serving up Argentine-style pizza (it rated Jason Sheehan’s recent list of favorite pizzas), Cuban sandwiches, gelato and more. (The family also opened Buenos Aires Fusion in Aspen last year.)
When La Coupole opened in the renovated Paris Hotel almost two decades ago, it was way ahead of the neighborhood — but it managed to last almost a decade. It was replaced by La Brasserie and then Tiramasu, neither of which did the space justice. Buenos Aires Grill was a far more noble attempt. We’ll be sorry to see it go, and just hope a worthy new tenant will appear in time to get one of Denver’s most lovely patios open by spring.
