If you are a Colorado farmer — or just roll in the hay with one — this message is for you. The Colorado Department of Agriculture is now accepting listings for Colorado Farm Fresh Directory, a free publication that will list farmers and their roadside stands, markets, farms (selling directly to the public) and CSAs (community supported agriculture efforts).
This will be the 25th edition of the directory, and it’s seen gradual changes, says Farm Fresh editor Loretta Lopez. “Over the times, there have been more farmer’s markets and recently there has been a lot more agritourism,” she explains. Agritourists tour farms, go to bed and breakfasts, and are generally interested in the source of their food.
The department will produce about 90,000 copies of the directory at a cost of $14,000; the fee for a listing is $25. But the deadline is February 1, so hop off your tractor and get a form at the Colorado State University Extension Office, call 303 239-4115, or visit the Department of Agriculture’s website. Come June, fans of farm-fresh food will be able to find free copies of the directory at farmer’s markets, libraries, bookstores and other spot around the state.
